I have been hesitant to move to the new Power Automate Designer UI, but is it maybe time to give that new UI a new try?

Recently I posted a poll trying to find out how many people actually use the new UI. With only 6% of people actually using the new UI, I must say that the launch of this potentially great UI hasn’t gone very smoothly.

A couple of months ago I asked a similar question and the uptake seems to go in the wrong direction.

Now we could of course all reject this new UI and stick to the old UI. I must admit I’ve been one of the people switching back to the old UI most of the time. But maybe, it is now a good time to give the new Power Automate Designer UI a second chance.
Power Automate issues
There have been quite a lot of issues that stopped people from switching to the new UI.
- Don’t like change
- Too many bugs
- Performance issues
The main area I will focus on in this post are the bugs that I have found that seem to have been resolved. Please notice that updated are deployed on a location by location basis. So depending on your location it may take slightly longer for updates to be deployed.
Power Automate updates
Some of the really annoying bugs that really stopped me from switching to the new UI have been related to:
- Default configurations in the new UI and the classic UI don’t match. For example when you added a When an item is created or modified trigger, the old UI would process one item at a time, whereas the new UI gives you an array of updates. This issue now seems to be fixed.
- When you have flows with html formatted text in the body of a Send an email action on save the formatting would all be gone. This now seems to be fixed.
- General performance of loading large flows, now seems to have improved a lot.
- Flows will now more often load in the new UI. So we will have a more consistent experience.
- Copy paste of single actions is possible in the new UI but Copy past of Scopes, Apply to each, Switch and other multi step steps isn’t possible.
Flows with comments will not load in the new UI. This is still the case. So if you really want to avoid the new UI then just add a comment to your flow.
Copy/Paste
The missing Copy/Paste functionality has been quite a pain to work with, but there is good news. We already saw that Copy/Paste using Copilot was possible but now the New Power Automate Designer UI also supports Copy/Paste of multiple actions.
Today Kishor Subedi from the Power Automate team announced the new Copy/Paste features in Power Automate.

And then you can paste the steps wherever you like in the flow.

Hi Pieter,
I am one of the 94% also – thank you for the post as I now know it is just not me not liking change.

I struggle to understand why I should like the new UI. It feels more complex and slow, even recently.
