Within the educational version of Microsoft Teams there is an option available to Mute students. With this option you can keep your students quiet within a team. In my tenant I created a Student user and I had a look at what muting student does, other than upsetting the student of course!

Within the Team members management section of the team there is a tick box available to mute a specific student within that team.

Before you tick that box it is possible for the student to be involved in conversations:

But once muted, all these options disappear.

Other than muting misbehaving students there might quite well be other nice applications for this. Imagine if you had a team where you would like to inform students, however you don’t want to have long conversations with students then you could use the mute option for all students within a specific team.
