Audience targeting in SharePoint Online

A long time ago there was something like Audience targeting in SharePoint. Now that there is Audience Targeting in SharePoint Online it is time to write another post.

This has been one of those features available in SharePoint on-premises that we have got used to not existing in SharePoint Online.

Hub Site Navigation

Today I looked at updating my hub site‘s navigation

And as I clicked on the Edit option I got the Edit Hub Navigation to appear:

That’s all great so far.

But, …

The nice options appears near the bottom of that long list:

Enable site navigation audience targeting

Enable site navigation audience targeting

To Enable site navigation audience targeting just toggle to option and then using the edit option for the links it is possible to edit the audience targeting option

As you type some of your groups SharePoint will suggest the teams available.

But it is not just Hub sites that have this option. The left hand navigation can also have audience targeting enabled. You will actually find that once you have enabled this option in one place all audience targeting options will enable themselves.

  1. Frustratingly not available on our tenant yet in sharepoint online grrr. I’m desperate for this feature.

  2. Hi Pieter, have you discovered anyway to set audience targeting on nav links via powershell or site designs? Thanks!
